Gym or No Gym? 29

How do you view the Gym? Social affair or blood, sweat and tears?
Perhaps it is not that Black and White. After all, we like to have fun in any activity that we do and the Gym should be no different. I have often found that the best way to achieve your goals whether it’s fat loss, to gain lean muscle tissue or for general fitness is to have a positive view towards it.
To be honest, I like training but there are some exercises I cannot stomach, crunches being one of them. I know some people (majority being women who do regular pilate’s classes) who would put me to shame regarding this area. However, I have been engaging in the popular ‘Spartacus’ workout in the Gym where a few of the exercises concentrate on the ‘core’. I enjoy doing these and the best part is; I am working my midsection. So while I wave the white flag on doing endless abdominal crunches, I can safely say that exercises such as: Jacknife’s, Alternate leg and Arm Raises, Plank Hops from Side-to-Side etc will make your core strong and efficient in no time.
Apart from the laboured breathing, I find these activities fun. It also happens to burn off fat. What a major plus!! It seems in the Gym that this sort of Activity is favored by other Gym User’s. This is where the social aspect kicks in. We can refer to it as Positive Peer Pressure. When you see someone giving it their all, you cannot help but smile, give them an encouraging remark and feel spurred on to emulate their zeal in your own workout.
Trying to do this on a daily basis is tough. We all have work schedules, family time so we have to schedule time in the week to do this. The beautiful thing about working out is that it can be tailored to us.
The reason I like doing the ‘Spartacus’ workout for example is that it is intense, short and does not cut into to my other commitments. There are also different variations on it that have been advertised by others so you can never get bored of doing the same old routine.
At the moment I am also following the bodyweight version of the ‘Spartacus’ method and this can be done at home as well as the Gym. So If you are unable to get to the Gym because of Time, Money or anything else, try doing it at home. What’s 10-15 minutes that cannot be spared in becoming more fit, losing fat and just feeling good about yourself.
I am trying to burn fat personally So I am doing this in the Gym. But If I cannot make for any given reason, I can still fall back on doing this at home. I am trying to achieve a daily exercise rota so basically something everyday. But that’s my choice. Feel free to do some research on this to see how you can fit this into your lives. These are ideas are not limiting but progressive.
So is the Gym social or hard work? I like to think it is somewhere in between.

The Experience of Great Interior Air Is Unique for Many of Us

Clean air to breathe in your home is as important as clean outdoor air, but sadly most folks aren’t aware of this. I’ll bet it would surprise you to know that over 80% of respiratory infections occur due to the release from air conditioning filter ducts.
While some people are very concerned about the quality of indoor air, those folks are likely still not aware of the quality of their air purifiers. Vornado AQS offers an elite electrostatic air cleaner with easy to reinstall disposable filters. This is the lone entry into the air purifier market by Vornado.
In general, common indoor purifiers may provide a valuable weapon in the fight against rising levels of indoor breathing pollution. Air Purifiers in your office or home are not only valuable but when properly constructed, can also add to home decoration.
The suggestion to purchase specifically electrostatic air cleaners to improve your indoor air quality, can serve as a super weapon for clean air seekers. In fact, a NASA study into air quality in confined spaces uncovers shockingly high-pollution levels.
Causation may rest in the increasingly frightening reality of our outdoor air. Urban air quality issues have actually served to pollute our indoor breathing environment. Efforts have been made under green house gas regulation provisions found in the Clean Air Act to improve the issues of both outdoor and indoor air.
Using air purification systems is a good way to help keep indoor air clean. At the same time, keeping pollutants out of your indoor air is also necessary. Air purifiers are by far the best and most practical way to manage and control indoor pollution.
Home air quality systems effectively clean the air you breathe through various high technology filtration proceses. Indoor cleaners can even add beauty and elegance to your homes and offices when properly constructed. Many, such as the Vornado AQS, are now energy saving.
Your home needs fresh air. The scary reality is that the air quality in your home could be up to 5 times more contaminated than the outside air depending on circumstances. Finding the right air purification system is very important. In furthering this objective, the Vornado AQS serves as a very popular option.
The simplicity for Vornado AQS is genius. To have great indoor quality, you need only make sure the Vornado AQS cleaner is installed properly in your home and that filters are replaced periodically.
The air inside your home could contain benzene, formaldehyde, xylene, or other harmful gases. Indoor cleaners clean the indoor breathing environment effectively–so these are by far the best indoor clean air products. They provide a baseline and uniform breathing experience in whatever room they are working in.
The AQS can be used to grow all the healthy air needed to maintain a safe indoor environmental condition for breathing. We are what we breathe, every bit as much as what we eat.

Tinnitus Cure – Your Search For A Treatment

Tinnitus can cause a range of effects from a mild disturbance to a disabling affliction that disrupts you life. Because there is no visible effect it is difficult for friends and family to comprehend why tinnitus is so incapacitating. When you are a tinnitus sufferer you know well enough that you are driven to discover a tinnitus cure or tinnitus treatment that will get rid that singing and buzzing sounds permanently.
Mild tinnitus is quite common. It is said that ten percent of people suffer from occasional tinnitus. Usually it is brought on by exposure to a loud noise or an infection such as a severe head cold. In cases like this the tinnitus often goes away of its own accord in a few days with no treatment.
That sort of tinnitus does not concern us here. We are much more concerned with people like you who suffer from chronic tinnitus. Chronic tinnitus always seems to be with you, or sometimes goes away, but not for long and it’s even annoying waiting for its unepredictable return. Tinnitus of this sort can be crippling, socially disadvantageous and can cause or increase stress and misery. This type of tinnitus needs some action so you can restore your former enjoyable life.
What you are seeking is cure for this ringing, hissing, buzzing discomfort in your ears. And you want to start now. How you would love to see an end to the irritation with your hearing, possible balance issues and that annoying pain in your ears.
I’m sure that you are well acquainted with the definition that tinnitus is a ‘hearing’ of non existent sounds. As such it seems worse at night when it is quiet and there are no external noises to mask it. You toss and turn all night hoping that the sounds will stop, but with no success, just lost sleep. What’s really frustrating is that no one else can hear the sounds as they are purely internal.
There are many reasons why you hear phantom noises. Some are indicators of more serious medical conditions such as Meniere’s disease or acoustic neuroma. So, before attempting any form of self cure, you should visit your doctor and seek a checkup.
There are no prescribed medicines yet shown to be effective at treating tinnitus. If your doctor has not resolved your case then you should actively look for alternative solutions.
Surgery is sometimes offered in extreme cases, but the success rate is doubtful. It is easy to see why, with so many possible causes a single, although major intervention cannot hope to address all the potential issues.
There is hope, significant hope. The reason why chronic tinnitus occurs is known to some extent and there are methods for dealing with them. It’s a very complex subject, but you do not need to comprehend all the reasons and effects; all you need is a straightforward, easy to manage, risk free, method to eliminate your tinnitus.
Here are two simple things which, if you do them, and do them consistently, will help you to ease your tinnitus. Start by trying to look and plan further ahead each day this will help you to reduce your stress levels – a known cause of tinnitus. At the same time look to increasing your exercise. Many of us leave very sedentary lives, getting up off your backside and taking a fifteen minute walk not only improves your muscles but also your circulation and gives you a bit of thinking time. You can find time by reducing your TV watching by half an hour every other evening, easy isn’t it.
If this help is not sufficient to resolve your tinnitus then you need a more carefully structured cure, so follow the link down at the bottom of this article to find what additional help is there for you in a tinnitus treatment review.
A great advantage of this way of mastering tinnitus is that there are big additional benefits for you as well. Getting rid of that tinnitus will drive down your stress levels, enabling you to rest easy at at night, feel chilled, and arise with energy and optimism once again.

Do You Want to Get a Vasectomy? Know the Pros and Cons

If you are thinking of getting a vasectomy, you are wise on reading up on it. Getting one is a major decision in your life. You do not want to make this decision lightly.
I got my vasectomy when I was 36 years old. That was 13 years ago and I have not regretted it one second. I already had two children at the time and determined that two was plenty for me. Caring for more children was not something that I wanted to do. I love being a dad, just not enough to have more children. Children are a huge expense on your finances and your time. You have to understand this before you become a father.
A man has to know his limitations. Or at least what he wants. In my case I wanted to not have any more children.
The cons to having a vasectomy is a very short list -
1) You will not be able to father any children. Unless you get the procedure reversed. Getting a vasectomy reversed is possible, but do your own research to satisfy yourself that it is reversible. You have to talk to doctors about this. You will not learn all this on the internet.
The pros to having a vasectomy are numerous -
1) You will not have any more children. A vasectomy means that it is impossible for your semen to make it into your ejaculate.
2) You can happily care for the children you already have.
3) You can provide better for the children you already have.
4) You can give the children you already have a better life.
5) You do not have to worry about unwanted pregnancies or abortions.
6) If you do not have children you can live your life exactly as you see fit.
7) Sex is much more pleasurable because you will not be worrying about being a father. This was a huge concern for me before I got married. I worried all the time about getting the women I slept with pregnant. These were one night stands and short-term flings. I loved sleeping around, but hated the thought of getting someone pregnant. I loved the freedom of sex, but hated the thought of the responsibility. I passed up many opportunities for sex because I did not want to take a chance getting a woman pregnant unless I knew she would not.
8) Sex is not affected as far as I can tell. It is just as good after my vasectomy as before. Since I do not have the worry of more babies, it is actually better.

The Colon: What It Does and What Can Go Wrong

Consisting of the large intestine, the rectum, and the anus, the colon is quite possibly one of the most important organs in your body. It is part of a complex system designed to eliminate food waste and the waste generated by your body as effectively as possible and is the part of the body where bowel movements are created out of digestive matter for excretion.
Aside from water and sodium, the colon is usually not associated with the absorption of food nutrients which is technically the job of the small intestines. However, the colon plays an extremely important role in overall health. It is the site of the fermentation of food materials that the small intestines cannot absorb (i.e., soluble and insoluble fibre) by bacterial flora. This is the reason why dietary probiotics have started to gain popularity in recent years. Bacterial flora in the colon are responsible for producing vitamin K-2 which has been shown to aid in proper blood clotting and the formation of strong bones. As a matter of fact, it is believed that one of the reasons why Japanese woman from Okinawa (an area famous for it's high number of centenarians and high average life-span) have much lower incidences of osteoporosis is that they consume healthy bacteria in their diets which increases the amount of vitamin K-2 that their colons absorb.
Evidently, the colon is an important organ for overall health, however things can go wrong. Like most bodily organs and tissues, the colon is susceptible to infection, inflammation, and cancer. There are a variety common conditions that can affect your colon:
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Irritable bowel syndrome is a condition in which the muscles of the colon contract abnormally, causing diarrhea, constipation, cramps in the abdomen, bloating, and gas. It can be managed through dietary changes/food avoidance and medications.
Colitis
Colitis is an umbrella term referring to several conditions characterized by inflammation of the large bowel. The different types of colitis include ulcerative colitis (cause unknown), Crohn's disease (cause unknown), ischemic colitis (when there is a lack of blood going to the colon), infectious colitis (the result of infections of the large bowel), and radiation colitis (caused by radiation therapy in the treatment of cancer).
Symptoms often depend on the cause of the colitis but common symptoms include abdominal pain and bloating, diarrhea, bloody stools, joint pain, nausea and vomiting, and a constant urgency to go to the bathroom.
Much like the symptoms, treatments also depend on the cause of the colitis but may include immune moderating medications, antibiotics to target infections, dietary changes, and possibly surgery if necessary.
Diverticular Disease
Diverticular disease consists of diverticulosis (where small pouches form in the colon when it is pushed through small openings in surrounding muscle walls) and diverticulitis (when these little pouches become inflamed). There is no official cause but it is believed that a diet low in fiber can lead to diverituclar disease.
Symptoms include cramping, bloating, and constipation if only diverticulosis is present but can include lower abdominal pain and nausea and vomiting if it becomes diverticulitis.
Surgery, medications, and dietary changes are usually the only common treatments for diverticular disease.
Cancer of the Colon and Rectum
Cancer of the colon and rectum occurs when the cells that make up the lining of the colon begin to reproduce uncontrollably. This leads to the formation of tumours which can ultimately be fatal. The first sign of cancer of the colon or rectum are pre-cancerous polyps, or small protruding growths on the tissues of the colon. These in themselves are not yet actually cancer but can develop into a serious cancerous growth.
There usually no symptoms associated with pre-cancerous polyps but once cancer of the colon or rectum occurs, symptoms may include blood in the stool, bowel obstruction, anaemia, and abdominal pains.
Treatment for cancer of the colon or rectum resembles the treatment of many other cancers and involves either chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, or some combination of the three.
If you have any of the symptoms mentioned above, it is recommended that you advise your doctor so that together, you can rule out any of the above conditions. You may also like to look into some medical diagnostic tests such as the common colonoscopy or a small bowel follow through procedure, as they are the ideal way to catch any problems early before they worsen.

Good, Better, Best: Lip Balms

When I shop, I go out and look for the best product out there. In this case, something to treat my lips. I want a product that can prevent blisters, chapped lips, and can work with a lipstick or lip stain. If you are like me, than look no further. I am posting my Good, Better, Best products in this category.
My Good, Better, Best rating system is inspired by the Steven & Chris show, wherein they introduce home decor ideas. I will introduce 3 products that I love and use. They are all great but rated here based on performance and price. These are all tops compared to other products in the same price range or those with the same Unique Selling Point.
My Good-Better-Best for this category are Vaseline, Decleor Eye & Lip Moisturizing Mask, and Laura Mercier's Lip Silk.
GOOD - Vaseline $4.00CAD for 100g
Vaseline or Petroleum Jelly, is a mix of paraffins, waxes and mineral oils that have a melting point just above body temperature so it melts on contact with your skin, fills in cracks, protects lips from exterior elements, and acts as a sealant keeping moisture in.
Every night I put Vaseline on my lips before bed and I wake up with moist lips. It goes on top of almost any lipstick or stain. It doesn't have any medical effects. Not anymore. However, it is an excellent sealant. On very dry days, I have to reapply. They came out with a diamond encrusted jar in one of their promotional give-aways. Fancy jar or regular jar, Vaseline is a GOOD lip balm.
Bonuses:
1 - Price
2 - Glossy finish like a lipgloss
3 - Excellent sealant
BETTER - Decleor Eye & Lip Moisturizing Mask $40 for 1oz.
This is an all-natural beauty product. It relaxes and quenches using Aromatic Mints and Orange Blossom Waters. It hydrates and protects against environment using extracts of Codium, Wild Pansy and micro-proteins of Moringa Oleifera. It smooths dehydration lines with extracts of Ivy, Cornflower and Sweet Clover Flower Water. The targeted active plant ingredients uses aquaporin technology to make eyes and lips feel smooth and refreshed. A small dab the size of a sesame seed is all you need to cover your lips. So a little goes a long way with $40.
I recently stumbled upon this product as part of a gift set. This product amazed me. Decleor Eye & Lip Moisturizing Mask was a better sealant for my lips than Vaseline. It kept the moisture in, and protected my lips for a good part of the day. It feels also thinner than Vaseline and coast my lips right away without rubbing off. It also works well over lipsticks and lip stains. Love it!
Bonuses:
1 - Duo treatment - eye & lip
2 - Long-lasting
3 - Thin and light
4 - All-Natural
Best - Laura Mercier Lip Silk $30.00CAD for 0.4oz
This is my Best rating of all lip balms. It reduces feathering and soothes dry lips for a smoother surface. It prepares lipstick wear and holds color. It is allergy tested in and is fragrance-free. A tiny amount is all you need.
The Laura Mercier sales rep said to me "It will change your life". I laughed and took a sample home. Well, it has changed my life. Before this product, I relied on good old Vaseline for my routine lip treatment. It was inexpensive and felt pretty safe. Vaseline was better than any lip balms on the market.
Wrong! The Laura Mercier Lip Silk blew me away. After a few days with this product, my lips were smoother and younger looking. The peeling and cracking started to heal. And, I had less fine lines because of it. This product meets all my needs. I am frightened by the price and only getting 0.4oz but a little goes a long way. This product will last! It will slowly absorb into your skin. I put a tiny dab, the size of a sesame seed, on my lips before bedtime and have to wipe the rest off in the morning if I want to put on lipstick. Re-apply every 12 hours. Amazing!
Bonuses:
1 - Reduces fine lines for a smoother surface
2 - Reduces peeling and cracking
3 - Lasts 12hrs +
4 - Hypoallergenic
All 3 products are amazing lip balms. I hope you try all 3 or choose the one that best suits your needs. Take care of your lips this Winter!

Bloodborne Pathogens and 3 Ways How They Can Get Transmitted

Bloodborne pathogens refer to the viruses and bacteria that may be present in the blood and can cause various types of diseases including some serious ones. Such diseases can spread to another person through the blood or even certain body fluids including saliva.
Infections through Bloodborne pathogens are an occupational hazard with healthcare personnel being the most vulnerable due to their proximity with such people and conditions. Physicians, nurses and the cleaning and house-keeping staff can easily come in contact with infected blood or fluids while dealing with the patient or handling certain instruments. Lab workers who work on the blood may also be exposed to such risks. Furthermore those working at blood banks or almost any people who work with infected blood are vulnerable to diseases caused by such pathogens. Besides the passing of such pathogens from the patient to the healthcare worker the virus may spread to another patient or may pass from a worker to the patient too.
Following are the 3 common ways in which Bloodborne pathogens can pass through individuals.
- Needlestick Injury: One of the most common and widespread cause of the spread of bloodborne pathogens are Needlestick injuries. The virus can be transmitted when a needle or any sharp object like a scalpel that has traces of the infected blood or fluid nicks, cuts or pricks your skin. In most cases you will experience very little or no bleeding but it is sufficient for the pathogens to pass into your body. Such injuries can take place when handling needles, syringes, instruments or while administrating intravenous drugs. These accidents can happen while giving day-to-day medication or during surgeries and anesthesia procedures too. Nurses, doctors and even the cleaning staff who may dispose of such needles, razor blades, broken glass or soiled bandages and gauze are vulnerable to these pathogens.
- Broken Skin: Unbroken skin is the best and most effective barrier to keep bloodborne pathogens at bay. However while performing routine activities of the day you often get minor cuts and scrapes and though you may not give it much attention, it can prove dangerous in a healthcare environment if infected blood comes in contact with such broken skin. Any opening in your skin including minor injuries, rashes, blisters, burns, acne and even sunburns can be a potential entry point for such pathogens to affect the body.
- Mucus Membrane: The delicate mucus membranes of your mouth, eyes and nose can be yet another passage for bloodborne pathogens to enter. A splash of infected blood or fluid on such parts can easily transmit the virus. It can also enter your system if you happen to come in contact with the blood or instrument and then touch your mouth, nose or rub your eyes soon after.
You must also note that touching an affected person, coughing, sneezing or using the same toilet or water fountain does not spread such pathogens. Educating yourself will help you in differentiating hazardous conditions from non-hazardous ones and also helps in preventing any unnecessary panic and misconceptions about bloodborne pathogens.

Chiropractic Treatment of Migraines

Migraine headaches afflict approximately six percent of men in the United States and eighteen percent of women at the same time, and migraine headache sufferers tend to miss between three and five workdays per year to these crushing headaches. When you consider the prevalence of the condition, it is surprising that there is still an enormous amount that is not known about its causes; because of this, treatments vary in their effectiveness. Though most migraine sufferers seek and use traditional medicine and rely on a combination of over the counter and prescription medications, others have found tremendous relief through treatment by chiropractors.
Though a great deal is still unknown about migraine headaches, we do know that the mechanism involves dilation and contraction of blood vessels in the brain; it is the cause of this dilation that remains a mystery. They may be caused by a number of things, including chemical imbalances in the brain, physical or emotional stress, or even exposure to certain foods and smells. In their search for relief from this debilitating condition, migraine sufferers have turned in increasing numbers to chiropractors, who believe that the migraine originates in a misalignment of the spine, and offer manipulation to both relieve the acute symptoms of an ongoing migraine and prevent the recurrence of migraines in the future. Patients have reported that the treatments are at least as effective as taking prescription medication without the side effects, and many report that once they've had chiropractic treatment, their migraines did not come back for several years.
The treatment of migraines, as well as other conditions, by chiropractors concentrates on the impact that the spine's misalignment has on the central nervous system. The interruption of the pathways of the spine that are impacted by migraine are generally those that feed the upper back, neck, shoulder and jaw, and that is where the chiropractor focuses his attention for headache sufferers. For chronic migraines, a treatment every three to four weeks generally wards off a migraine attack; about twenty five to thirty percent of migraine sufferers never require another treatment again after their first visit with a chiropractor. It is difficult to tell whether seeing a chiropractor for a migraine is effective because it treats the symptoms so well or because it cures the underlying problem that caused the migraine in the first place; chiropractic adjustment is well known for its impact on overall wellness.

Urgent Care Center Benefits That Make It Worth It

An urgent care center is a medical facility that is open to the general public. Individuals who come here have health issues that do not need emergency treatment but requires attention. There are many different problems that the human body can have which can be addressed by these kinds of centers. Most of the time, if not all the time, problems dealt here involve physical issues not mental ones. To protect the people, the government has set requirements that each center must comply before they can open. These requirements include the kinds of services that they can offer to the people, staff members and their working times. The requirements focus on the facility accepting patients from all walks of life at any given time that the urgent care center is in operation. The members of the staff should also be able to address the more common illnesses, diseases and problems that these patients bring with them. Usually, the government or the state requires that some of the more needed equipment be present in the center before they can be operational. Most facilities do not encourage parents with kids below two years old to go to them for any serious issues like a fall, loss of consciousness and others.
Benefits
There are several glaring benefits of going to an urgent care center. One of the most obvious is the immediate attention that an individual gets for the issue that he or she has. The state recommends going to this type of facility if the matter at hand is not an emergency and not of a pressing nature. The medical professionals there are also qualified doctors, nurses and medical staff who are trained to deal with most of the more common health problems that do not need surgery or emergency attention. Due to the nature of most issues that pass through the clinic daily, turnaround is faster than scheduled visits to the hospital. Another benefit is the availability of most of the medical staff in the establishment. Since they are obliged to stay open at the allotted hours, patients can rest assured that they can talk to a qualified and certified doctor when they go there. This means that one can receive almost immediate attention without the benefit of a schedule. Other benefits include the availability of several urgent care centers in one locale compared to a hospital, the lesser cost of these facilities compared to that of emergency rooms and the fact that many insurance companies recognize these units in their coverage also.
Services
Walk in service is probably the one that makes these centers very popular for many people. There is no need for a schedule because they usually follow the first come first serve policy. Another service that they extend is travel health. This means that the vaccinations and shots that are required or needed before a person travels is usually available in an urgent care center. These include flu shots as well. Travelers can also benefit from visiting one because they usually have fliers that carry ads for vaccines and others for certain regions of the world.

Excess Abdominal Fat Part 1 - Deadly, Ugly or Both?

Most people don't realize just how dangerous their excess abdominal fat is. People tend to make light of it by even making fun of themselves. You could say it is a good thing that most people think the appearance of excess abdominal fat is ugly and makes them self conscious about showing off their body. That is because no matter what the motivation or reason for getting rid of the excess fat is a good thing.
This was to be one total article on the subject of excess abdominal fat and how to get rid of it. I'm a Certified Nutrition Specialist not a doctor and the main content was to be about designing a sound nutritious diet full of unprocessed foods. But, I soon realized that the dangers of excess abdominal fat especially visceral fat needed to be talked about more than I had originally planned. So I hope by talking about both sides of the subject will give you more incentive to lose any and all excess abdominal fat that you have.
A government study that was conducted at The Harvard Medical School in 2006 showed that over half of the U.S. citizens were over weight and 1/3 of all the over weight were considered obese. The study also showed of all the over-weight, men and women the abdominal area contributed to at least part of the over-weight in 100% of the participants. Scientists still don't know just how deadly excess abdominal fat is. They do know of the two types of fat in the abdominal area are called subcutaneous fat and visceral fat. Both fats in your abdominal area are serious health risk factors.
Subcutaneous fat lies directly beneath the skin and on top of the abdominal muscles. You are able to touch or grasp subcutaneous fat. Subcutaneous fat has several different nicknames usually referred to by men as six-pack, spare-tire, and beer belly. One nickname used especially if he has an extra large abdominal area would be the question when are you expecting?
Visceral fat on the other hand is hidden and lies much deeper in the abdomen beneath your muscle and surrounding your organs. Studies conducted by scientists have shown that having excessive visceral fat is even more dangerous than subcutaneous fat. All of the dangers and serious health risk from excess visceral fat is still unknown. Research suggests that visceral fat cells are biologically active. Although scientists are still studying and conducting research on the affects of excess visceral fat in the abdominal area it is starting to become clear that visceral fat is linked to metabolic disturbances, increased risk for cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. In women visceral fat has been linked to breast cancer and the need for gallbladder surgery.

Learn About Great Caffeine Alternatives - Find Out If You Can Really Skip the Cup of Joe!

Learn more about how your adrenal glands function. Learn about great Caffeine Alternatives. Find out if you can really Skip the Cup of Joe!
A recent report stated that over 90% of Americans consume caffeine daily. Many users of caffeine are not aware of the potential dangers that overconsumption can lead to. Caffeine naturally occurs in many products that most people consume daily. It is usually found in beverages such as coffee and tea. Caffeine is a stimulant.
Overconsumption of caffeine can have some major side effects. Some researchers blame stimulant overdose as to the fatigue of the adrenal glands. Other side effects include sleep deprivation and physical and mental dependence.
Too much caffeine amplifies the body into producing the adrenal hormone cortisol, which can occur even many minutes after consumption.
Are there any good alternatives to caffeine?
Asking many to cut out their morning coffee would seem an impossible task! A strong cup of joe usually helps many workers get through the morning lull! Many people are concerned these days about the health of their adrenal glands. Many experts believe that a high protein breakfast can help boost energy levels naturally.
There has been a lot of talk lately about a chemical called Tyrosine, which also occurs in high protein foods. Tyrosine is naturally found in soy products, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, beans, peanuts, almonds, turkey, fish, chicken, milk, avocados and cottage cheese. Many of the aforementioned foods also contain beneficial vitamins and nutrients essential to a balanced diet plan. As regards to protein content, substances like Tuna is a healthy choice when consumed in moderation. Some experts believe that it should only be consumed once or twice a week because of the high mercury content in tuna.
It's a good idea to also avoid sugar and unnecessary chemicals to help the body rejeuvenate itself. Many studies have reported adverse effects from overconsumption of sugary soft drinks. The main reason is they contain the problematic high fructose corn syrup! A high protein breakfast give the body a natural boost that can limit caffeine cravings.
What about Tyrosine supplements?
Tyrosine supplements are found in health food stores. They are usually dispensed in the form of capsules. The recommended dosage when starting the supplement is one tablet in the morning. Vitamin B aids the effect of Tyrosine. A major con of Tyrosine overconsumption is it can trigger jittery behaviour.
What about Natural Herbs?
Some natural herbs can also have a stimulating effect on the body. These herbs are not considered stimulants, yet they can rejevenaute the body's natural energy. Natural herb teas like Ginger, Cinnamon, and Peppermint fall into this category. They nourish the body instead of providing a false jolt of energy that is common in energy drinks and strong coffee. As with any supplement, moderation is recommended even with these natural choices.
The quest to limit or cut out caffeine completely from ones diet is a challenging one. But with correct information and some healthy alternatives, you can be successful!

The Importance of Prevention in Infection Control - 4 Tips

Infection Control deals with containing infections in any healthcare setting. However this can prove to be extremely tricky as infection can be passed in many ways between the patients, several healthcare personnel and even the family as all these groups of people comes in constant contact with each other thus raising the possibility of spreading infections.
The old adage about prevention being better than cure rings particularly true in such environments, as some basic care can help in minimizing the chances of such infections from spreading in the first place.
- Hand Hygiene: Maintaining a clean pair of hands is the most simple and effective manner to avoid dangerous microorganisms from spreading. It is your hands that come in maximum contact while handling patients, instruments or administering treatments and can cause the infection to pass on easily. Washing your hands with a disinfectant soap and sufficient water and then wiping it clean with a paper towel can be very useful. Ideally you must wash hands in between different tasks and dealing with different patients. Also hands must be cleaned promptly after contact with any blood, body fluids, medical instruments and items, infected clothes as well as used and discarded bandages.
- Sterilization: One of the most effective ways to get rid of microorganisms from instruments is sterilization. The different methods employed include steam, heat and chemicals, with the first 2 being more common due to ease and availability and chemicals being used in a cold sterilization process especially when the instruments cannot be subjected to heat. Though less effective than sterilization, a disinfectant chemical may also be used at normal temperatures to clean of various surfaces.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): PPE are one of the better known and commonly visible kinds of protection that can work well for forming a physical barrier to keep infection at bay. A host of such equipment that comprises of gowns, caps, gloves, masks, face shields and even shoe covers can help in avoiding contact with infected blood, instruments or related materials. These can protect the eyes, mouth and nose and even prevent infection from spreading through the clothes and shoes. Furthermore sufficient care must be exercised to discard any such gear that is disposable and meant for single used only, while the other reusable items must be properly disinfected before using them again. Also remember that PPE must never be shared.
- Vaccination: Healthcare personnel are constantly exposed to infection due to the nature of their work. Vaccinations can help in boosting their immunity against contracting diseases. This can prove especially useful against diseases that have no concrete cure, for example the Hepatitis B Virus (HBV). And though vaccinations may not be foolproof they do add another layer of safety.
The above preventive measures can be followed up by constant surveillance to ensure all steps are being adhered to and that any suspected spread of infection can be nipped in the bud with prompt action. Ultimately the measures adopted will depend on the particular healthcare setup and also the regulations that are prevalent in the particular country or state.

How Does Sound Therapy Work?

Sound therapy aims to bring about optimum health. This occurs when we are vibrating in harmony at our natural and inherent resonant frequency.
Each aspect of our being including our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects has a unique resonance, or rate of vibration. When one of the resonant frequencies of these aspects begins to vibrate out of sync, dis-ease or ill health occurs. When this happens, an imbalanced sound pattern or vibration has been established within one or more levels of our being.
There are 4 key ways that sound therapy works:
  1. Sympathetic resonance
  2. Brain wave entrainment
  3. Frequency following response
  4. Balancing left / right brain hemispheres
Let's look at each of these in turn....
1. Sympathetic resonance
Sound Therapytools can help to restore the inherent vibration via sympathetic resonance. The sound therapy tools allow the area of imbalance to be brought back into balance through a like vibration. The like vibration is the vibration, which matches the original frequency and is the frequency the area most naturally wants to vibrate at. Through the projection of the sound tools' pure vibrational sounds the waves go to the area of imbalance and the weak or dissonant frequency is transformed and optimal resonance is restored.
2. Brain wave entrainment
Sound therapyalso works through entrainment, which is a law of physics. The definition of entrainment is the predisposition that two oscillating bodies will lock into phase so that they vibrate in harmony with one another. Entrainment therefore occurs when two or more rhythmic cycles come into synchronisation. This principle is universal and can be found on many levels for example in chemistry, neurology, biology, medicine and astronomy.
Dutch scientist Christian Huygens discovered entrainment in 1656 when he placed two unsynchronised clocks side by side and found that they began to gradually synchronize. He discovered that the precision of this was so accurate that not even mechanical intervention had the capacity to calibrate them quite so accurately.
On a physical level entrainment can often occur in women who live together or who spend much of their time together. Their entrainment is of a bodily nature, through chemicals and hormones that regulate the menstrual cycle. What can often happen to these women is that their monthly menstrual cycle begins to synchronise and they lock into step with one another.
This law of physics also applies to other more complex structures such as the brain. Brain wave entrainment relates to the brain's actual electrical response to rhythmic sensory stimulation, such as pulses of sound or light. When the brain is given a stimulus either through the eyes, ears and / or one of the other senses, it emits an electrical charge in response. This is referred to as being a cortical evoked response. These cortical evoked responses are electrical responses which travel throughout the brain and ultimately become those things that we see, hear and feel. If the brain is presented with a repeating stimulus, it responds by synchronising these electric cycles to the same rhythm. This is commonly called Frequency Following Response or 'FFR' for short. The stimulus itself can be nearly anything; for example a physical vibration, a flash of light or a pulse of sound.
An example of this can be seen when the brain is presented with a sound instrument such as a drum which emits a rhythmic sound that stimulates the brain. This rhythmic beat is reproduced in the brain in the form of electrical impulses. When the drum beat increases or decreases in speed, but stays consistent the brain responds and synchronises its own electrical cycles to the same rhythm of the drum.
3. Frequency following response
Frequency Following Response (FFR) is used in sound therapy to stimulate special brainwave frequencies that are associated with positive well-being. As brainwaves are intimately linked to mental states of consciousness, by creating sounds associated with brainwaves that lead to peace, calm and healing, we bring about positive change.
An example of this can be found when working with the 4-8 hertz theta brainwave frequency. Theta is associated with both sleep and deep meditative states. Therefore working with a 4 - 8 Hz sound pattern is extremely helpful in manifesting the sleep/meditative state and can be used for example with someone suffering from insomnia, stress, tension and general anxiety.
With Sound Therapy it is possible to stimulating particular FFR's relating to specific mental states including relaxation, healing, creativity, grounding etc. The FFR is also linked to the creation of deep spiritual states including deep meditation, lucid dreaming and moments of realisation.
4. Balancing left / right brain hemisphere
Part of the process of the electrical reactions within the structures of the brain comes from the synchronisation of the two hemispheres of the brain: the left and right, which are associated with masculine and feminine attributes. The left-brain is linked to the masculine principle of reason, scientific proof and emotional objectivity. The right-brain is linked with the feminine principle of creativity, intuition and empathy.
Sound tools allow the two hemispheres to be balanced and come together for maximum or optimum health, transformation and advancement. This is often referred to as 'hemi-sync' ® through the work of Dr Robert Monroe of the Monroe Institute, who has done much research into this theory.
The simplest way in which to achieve this via sound therapy is with the use of two different frequencies. We can see how this works for example with a frequency of 100 cps and another of 108 cps that are played in tandem. What happens with these two differing frequencies is that a third frequency is created from them. In this example it would be a frequency of 8 cps. What is also important in brain synchronisation is that the frequency is within a range that stimulates positive mental, emotional and or physical responses. In this example the balancing of the two hemispheres of the brain occurs within the Alpha range, this is linked with relaxation, light meditative states and creativity.
So we can see that sound therapy, through its inherent rhythmic vibrations and sounds can alter the brain wave frequency, entraining harmonious frequencies. Dissonant vibrations can be replaced, ensuring imbalanced areas locks into the rhythmic pattern and thus changing vibratory rates, from negative to positive. Sound Therapy has the wonderful potential to balance the two hemispheres of the brain allowing equilibrium to be achieved and to manifest positive states of consciousness linking to mental, emotional and physical balance, harmony and well-being.

Laboratory Equipment for Research and Analytical Labs

The demand for quality laboratory equipment for research and analytical labs is rising. All types of advanced devices are needed to identify, measure, analyze and monitor samples of liquids, solids and gases. The challenge lies in equipping labs with devices that provide accurate results in minimal time. Lab equipment must also adhere to the highest safety standards.
Research and Analytical Labs require Different Types of Equipment
Medical laboratory equipment is used to analyze blood, urine and genes. It includes blood collection equipment, blood gas analyzers, chemistry analyzers, coagulation analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes, and so on.
Analytical chemists and researchers acquire, process and provide information on the composition and structure of matter. They examine samples to provide information on compounds or quantities of compounds present using advanced chemistry equipment lab equipment. Chemistry analyzers and spectrometers are used to separate the components of various compounds based on their chemical properties, and the results are interpreted and reported. Their research greatly supports the food and pharmaceutical industry and is used to test compliance with environmental and other regulations. They also support physicians in clinical research.
Investing in Medical and Chemistry Lab Equipment
With the financial crisis still looming large, research labs are looking for ways to cut costs. A feasible option is to purchase used lab equipment. This is used equipment that is refurbished to work like new. There are many scientific equipment dealers that purchase used devices and instruments, and repair and refurbish them to meet original specifications. They offer the equipment for sale at prices much lower than new. In fact, many small and medium-size labs benefit greatly from such deals. Finding the right supplier is important.
On the other hand, large research labs conducting advanced research generally look for devices incorporating the latest technology. This ensures accurate results within the specified deadlines. Of course, the equipment is expensive. Labs looking to purchase such advanced equipment should ensure that they invest in branded devices from top industry manufacturers.
Sourcing Lab Equipment
Many dealers offer laboratory equipment for research and analytical labs. However, caution should be exercised when choosing a supplier. The best way to decide is to surf the online stores and examine the equipment on offer. Things to look out for:
  • Does the dealer offer a wide array of quality equipment from leading manufacturers?
  • Does the store offer both new and recertified equipment?
  • Do the devices come with proper warranty?
  • Are reagents, consumables and lab parts available at the store?
  • Does the dealer offer reliable lab equipment installation, service and maintenance services?
  • Are equipment prices competitive?
Some research may be required to find the right laboratory equipment supplier, but it is well worth the trouble.
