Your quest to end your snoring once and for all has set you on the hunt for a cure. There are all kinds of anti snoring devices available in the market, but are any of them any good?
Do anti snoring devices work? Well, the promotional materials will have you believe that you are witnessing the second coming, after all they are in the business of selling the product.
But yes, there are a number of devices that do stop, or significantly reduce your snoring.
Ive compiled a list of the ones Ive used, and my views on them.
1. Anti snoring nasal strips.
If youre not sure what these are, they are basically thin strips of plaster material that you stick across your nose. They look a lot like butterfly stitches. Within the plaster is a thicker, more rigid section which is supposed to hold your nostrils open further as you sleep.
My personal experience is that these were a waste of money. I tried them for a couple of weeks. My wife reported no reduction in the level of snoring. When I awoke each morning the plaster had either peeled off of one side of my nose or had come off completely and was somewhere in the bed!
2. Anti snoring sprays.
The idea here is that you spray a mist into the back of your throat, which in turn reduces inflammation of the airway and thus reduces your snoring.
Verdict? The spray made me want to throw up and did not stop any snoring. Another waste of time.
3. Anti snoring pillow.
This is a specially designed pillow that is supposed to correctly align your neck as you sleep so as to keep the airway open. There are designed to be very comfortable and assist in a deeper sleep.
We bought one of these. It was expensive from what I recall. It did lessen my snoring, because it was so uncomfortable I couldnt get to sleep! It gave me a very sore neck every morning and I eventually threw it in the bin and went back to a conventional pillow.
4. Mandibular Splint.
A splint looks a lot like a mouth guard that you put in and sleep with every night. There are different ones over a varied price range so obviously some are better made than others. The more basic version requires you to heat it up with boiling water and then “mould” it to your jaws. The lower jaw must stick out further than the upper jaw in order for the airway to be maintained during sleep.
We bought the cheaper version and followed the boiling instructions. It was simple to set up. This item actually stopped my snoring for a period of time but it was not the most comfortable thing to sleep with. Quite often I awoke each morning thinking that all my teeth were falling out!
The discomfort only eased once the plastic started to give in and revert back to its former shape. Then you had to remould it and start again, with the same level of discomfort as before. Perhaps we went “too cheap”, Im sure this might be the right device for a lot of snorers if you can handle the initial soreness.

Hi there just wanted to give you a quick heads up
and let you know a few of the pictures aren't loading properly.
I'm not sure why but I think its a linking issue. I've tried it in two different browsers and both show the same outcome.
